Why get your reel edited by a professional?
Valid question! Here are 3 reasons why getting your showreel cut by a professional editor like me is a good idea:
Scene Doctoring - The scenes in the actor’s showreels you see above have been carefully edited to showcase as much of their performance as possible in the shortest amount of time, cutting out any dead space or moments that don’t show them without disrupting the flow of the scene.
Retention - Casting directors and producers have very little time, so it’s really important to front-load the reel with the best work (which can vary from the best performance, the most prestigious looking piece, or the kind of work that the actor/director wants to book more of)
Seemless Watching - If a reel is too stop/start, it’s easy for a casting director to lose focus and move on to somewhere else. I smooth out transitions between scenes as seemlessly as possible to really make the viewing experience flow, and therefore less likely to take the casting director out of the reel.
